After finessing the rear wheel wells with a hammer some filler was prudent, naturally it escalated into fixing dings in the doors, bumper, and quarter panels. Because:”While I’m at it...” Also got new taillights and an emblem.

It could’ve looked better if I’d done more layers over the whole thing and sanded to a higher grit(say 1500 instead of 400).

Kinja'd!!!

Waxed on the left and sanded on the right.

There are drips along with some small sections where the color shows through but that can be painted and blended easily.

Tats not bad. So why not sand it down add a couple layers sand again and a clear coat?

Btw I know nothing of painting a car

I’ve been working on this daily for a month straight and I’m burnt out.

The paint almost always runs in one spot or another(Or some type of imperfection) which requires wet sanding of the whole surface in between with a foam sanding block. Also i didnt want to buy another 3 cans of paint to put another coat on(already 6 deep and they cost $4.xx per can)

It was kind of a proof of concept for myself to see if it will look okay to sand then wax the surface. When I want to finish painting the car (hood, fenders, roof) I’ll sand to at least 800 and see how that pans out. Dont think id set clear coat on because:yet more sanding and $15-$30 in spray paint.

2005 Hyundai Elantra, it earned a Meh Car Monday, but it was really cheap / affordable and is actually great for city driving. My car has tons of hail damage so I am using it to learn how to do body work. It is an easy car to work on too which is really nice.

I really liked the 01 before it sold. Plenty of power for it’s size, decent handling, nice interior.

I think your purple will turn out nice with enough sanding given you choose a good spray paint to start with. I’m interested to see how that project goes.

Yeah the earlier ones look better from the front. I picked a dark Krylon purple. I plan on doing a review before I paint it. Hopefully I actually do the review. It is really good for city driving.and up to 60 mph. It does not like 70 mph, cruising at 3100 rpm.

I actually don’t think it looks too bad at all, at least from those pics!

Not bad at all! I am a Hyundai fan....partially learned to drive stick with a friend in his 2004 Elantra sedan of a similar vintage to yours. It was a reliable, comfortable car. He did, however, drive it REALLY hard all the time, so I sortof pitied it...eventually he was a little too overzealous on a gravel road (he was only going 50kph, but it was a sharp turn)...all I remember is thinking ‘we are going towards the ditch’ and the next second wondering why my pocket knife was floating on the ceiling...

I always really liked the Elantra GT’s styling of that era, especially the rear end hatch design.

Good luck!
